Entry requirements

The majority of our applicants come to us with at least two qualifications from Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Design & Technology. We are also open to applications from able students offering other subject combinations.

Entry requirements for the most common qualifications are shown below. We recognise the increasingly wide variety of qualifications taken by applicants, especially those applying from overseas. If the qualifications you have or are hoping to achieve are not listed, please contact the Admissions Tutor.

Materials Engineering MEng/BEng
Automotive Materials MEng/BEng

A Level (not including General Studies or Key Skills) AAB from at least 2 out of Maths/Physics/Chemistry & a 3rd subject at A Level or 2 AS Levels BBB or ABC from at least 2 out of Maths/Physics/Chemistry & a 3rd subject at A Level or 2 AS Levels
SQA Advanced Highers: A/B in Maths, Physics or Chemistry.
Highers: majority B grades
Advanced Highers: B/B in Maths, Physics or Chemistry.
Highers: majority B/C grades
International Baccalaureate (points) Minimum 34-36, including 5/6 in any two of Maths, Physics or Chemistry at higher level Minimum 30-32, including 5/6 in any two of Maths, Physics or Chemistry at higher level
Other qualifications & requirements BTEC ND: D/D/M
Advanced Diploma Engineering: 400 points including A Level Maths, Physics or Chemistry
Other subjects are considered on an individual basis for entry either directly or via a foundation year.
BTEC ND: D/M/M
Advanced Diploma Engineering: 300 points including A Level Maths, Physics or Chemistry
Other subjects are considered on an individual basis for entry either directly or via a foundation year

Design with Engineering Materials MEng/BEng

  MEngBEng
