Full profile

During my Materials Engineering degree I went on placement with the Thames Water Research & Development Team where I spent 14months investigating water pipe failures.  Once I finished my final year I went to work for the Water Operations team within Atkins, one of the largest engineering consultancy firms globally.  I spent 3 and a half years with this company, working on various projects including performing the technical lead role on a feasibility project to replace water mains within the Severn Trent Water regions, which had a construction budget exceeding £16M.

I moved companies in Autumn 2010 to MWH, who according to the NCE (March 2010) are ranked first in the “Top Global Firms Consultants File” 2010. Here I am performing a Lead Design Engineer role whilst also managing a pipe sampling programme, which utilises my materials background. I am currently working towards Chartership with the Institute of Civil Engineers, who recognise the Materials Engineering Degree that I did at Loughborough.

During my studies I found the small department experience that Materials offered was great, with the high number of teaching staff being incredibly supportive during my studies.  My optional DIS placement year, that the department offer, is an incredibly valuable element of the degree and I thoroughly recommended it.
