Outline of main research interests
Application of advanced electron microscopy and associated analytical techniques to the characterisation of a range of nano-structured materials. These have included:
1, Interface and surface analysis of nanoscale multilayer TiAlN/ VN (super-hard) and C/CrC (low-friction) coatings for dry high speed cutting tools using spherical aberration corrected atomic resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy.
2, Valence status characterisation of functional ceramics (LiNiO, LiCoMnO, sol-gel PbZrTiO 3 thin films) using X-ray diffraction and TEM/electron energy-loss spectroscopy.
