Background

Steve completed a BA in Natural Sciences and an MSci in Chemistry at Selwyn College, Cambridge.
He then completed a PhD in the Melville Laboratory for Polymer Synthesis, Cambridge working with thin functional polymer films grown by surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerisation (ATRP). Following this he went to the Department of Chemistry at Sheffield University to conduct postdoctoral research in investigating surface-initiated polymerisation and the surface modification of polymer colloids. Steve joined the Materials Department as a Lecturer in 2008.
