Background
Aya read for a BEng in Materials Scinence and Engineering at Shibaura Institute of Technology in Japan between 1998-2002. She then carried out her MEng study at the same institution from 2002 to 2004. After her MEng study, she conducted her PhD at the University of Cambridge between 2005-2009, specifically concerning to microstructural evolution of coated turbine blade materials. She became a post-doctoral researcher of National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) in Japan between 2009-2010, and joined the Department of Materials in 2011 as a JSPS Postdoctoral Fellow for Research Abroad working with Prof. Rachel Thomson.Qualifications
- BEng, Materials Science and Engineering, Shibaura Institute of Technology, Japan
- MEng (Hons), Shibaura Institute of Technology, Japan
- PhD, Materials Science and Metallurgy, University of Cambridge
Outline of main research interests
Microstructural evolution, high temperature oxidation of coated and uncoated turbine blade materials, and their characterisation using advanced electron microscopy, such as EBSD.
