Tensile testing

The department of Materials has a wealth of characterisation, processing and test equipment to cover the majority of disciplines and subject areas associated with materials research and teaching.
Many new investments mean we are state of the art in many areas and we can offer equipment and critically the associated expertise to solve client’s problems and carry out investigations they cannot easily perform themselves.

Our specialist services can be subdivided into the following three areas

The LMCC is a professionally operated and run facility, providing consultancy, research, analysis and testing services to industry and academia. The centre houses state-of-the-art, world-class facilities with regular new investment in machinery. For any company with a materials related problem that needs the best technical investigation the LMCC should be a first port of call.

The Materials department at Loughborough is internationally recognised as a leader in PVC research and development and has formed the PVC Innovation Centre to provide high quality R&D services, networking and training to the world-wide PVC community.

In addition to these two specialist centres, the department also has many labs containing a wide range of test equipment and a process plant area containing many polymer and rubber processing machines, as well as a newly upgraded Furnace room and a metals processing lab. These facilities can often be made available (subject to availability) to industrial clients and we see a number of users on a regular basis.
