User Centred Design Research Group

Key interests
The User Centred Design Research Group has interests that span all aspects of life, but has particular expertise in the following areas:
Connected Futures
The Connected Futures research applies scientific methods to inform the design of future IT-based products and services. We match the capabilities offered by technology to the needs of people in consumer, public and business applications.
Energy
Understanding user requirements and behaviours is key to the success of energy saving measures. Our research takes a user centred approach, focusing on the needs of consumers and other stakeholders, particularly in the domestic and transport sectors, understanding, for example, how their daily practices use energy and how energy efficiency measures might be adopted.
Transport Ergonomics
For more than 30 years we have successfully delivered independent, scientific guidance on usability issues across all transport modes to both industry and Government to the highest level.
Safety and Inclusive Design
This work has a very broad remit covering both applied research and expert services. In the area of research we look at human capabilities and develop guidelines to aid designers in creating safe and inclusive products and systems.
