Transport Safety Research Centre

Key interests
Accident and Injury Investigation
The TSRC is amongst the world leaders in accident investigation and analysis, it has conducted accident and injury causation studies since 1983 and the results of its work have influenced many of the most important safety regulations and technologies.
Vehicle Safety Research
The Transport Safety Research Centre has been conducting research into the safety of vehicles and their systems for over 20 years. Our team of specialist researchers has developed wide ranging expertise to enable them to evaluate the performance of in-vehicle primary safety systems - systems intended to prevent the crash occurring - and secondary safety systems - systems to mitigate injuries.
Road User Behaviour
Research into road user behaviour and the manner in which the traffic systems are used is fundamental to effective road safety policies. The Centre conducts research into the decisions that road users make in order to explain their involvement in crashes and is developing and applying new models of accident causation to its research.
Health Impacts Research
The continuing impact of crashes and injuries on individuals and society is a large part of the overall cost and the Centre is using its accident studies as the basis for further long-term research.
Infrastructure Safety Research
Highway engineering has a considerable capability to reduce traffic collisions and a team within the Centre conducts wide ranging research into ways to improve trunk, local roads.
Road Safety Policy
The Centre conducts a broad range of research relating to specific road, vehicle and road user studies that address specific safety policies at national level or wider. It has also a considerable record in developing safety resources for application across the policy spectrum.
