Loughborough Design School opens

1 August 2010

Loughborough Design School was officially opened today in preparation for what looks to be a very exciting new era for design students, design academics and the wider Loughborough University community.

The School brings together three departments - Design and Technology, Ergonomics, and the Ergonomic Safety Research Institute (ESRI). In August 2011 the new Design Centre building will be completed becoming a central hub for the activity of the school - you can see a Computer Aided Design animation of the new building on the homepage, together with further details about the School's activities.

Design activity will be undertaken beneath a broad umbrella of interdisciplinary provision which does not recognise particular disciplines as boundaries but seamlessly links them to provide solutions, research and teaching already recognised as world-leading by governments, industrialists and employers.

This distinctive approach reflects the strength of design-related activity across a particularly broad spectrum, ranging from product styling to engineering design, nurturing the development of existing strengths in design ergonomics, transport safety, technology, sustainability, environmental ergonomics, design practice and education.

Some of the courses on offer include Product Design, Industrial Design, Ergonomics and Design Ergonomics, with opportunities for advanced study and research in each of these areas.
