PhD Topic/Title: Youth Volunteering in Muslim Communities in Birmingham
Islam has been the most academically explored religion in recent years, perhaps due to the social and political conflicts that are so well documented within the western media. The majority of research has tended to focus on tensions between western society and Islamic fundamentalism, primarily concentrating on issues of migration, social cohesion, national identity and national security. However this thesis will offer a response to Gale’s (2007) call for a diversification of the study of Islam within geographical discussions, by exploring youth volunteering in Muslim communities in Birmingham.
