PhD Topic/Title: A cultural-historical geography of Leonard Cheshire Disability: mapping media representations and communicative cultures of disabled people’s lives (1950-2015).

The research explores the historical impulses which shaped narratives about disability from 1950 until the present day. Utilising the case study of UK charity Leonard Cheshire Disability, I will explore the notion of the home and how Cheshire residents built a community in the Cheshire homes. Through this case study the PhD will analyse the changing landscape of representations and approaches to disability in the UK asking key questions about the wider politics of how disabled people’s lives have been represented.
