Extra-curricular Languages Programme
This course is designed for beginners with little or no knowledge of the language. The course covers a variety of everyday situations such as:
- Small talk about yourself and others
- Counting things, telling times and dates
- Telephoning
- Shopping
- Ordering food
In order to make learning easy, the English alphabet, 'Roma-ji' is mainly used in class during the 1st semester. Then after two months break, in the 2nd semester the class gradually shifts from Roma-ji to Hiragana and Katakana, which are actual everyday scripts in Japan.

Japanese Level 2
PREREQUISITE:
You must be able to READ and WRITE both HIRAGANA and KATAKANA.
This course is mainly intended for those who completed the beginners' course recently. If you studied basic Japanese some years ago and are not confident in using particles properly, then you are advised to take the level 1 course.
The class is taught in English but you are expected to be able to read and write both Hiragana and Katakana. Kanji is not used or taught in the class but left for self-study for the Asset language test.
The course covers similar areas as at level 1, but encourages you to speak more confidently and freely with more complicated verbal expressions , expanding the range of vocabulary.

PREREQUISITE:

This course is for those who completed Level 2 or are confident in speaking using the correct tense and particles.
The class is taught in Japanese with a little help in English (that is, you should be able to ask questions in Japanese). Kanji is left out for self-study.
Covering all the contents of Asset Language Intermediate Test, this course introduces a variety of verb and tense forms (nominalization, simultaneous action, experience, etc.) to develop the complexity of conversation.
You are encouraged to engage in conversation practice with your partner during each session.
