Extra-curricular Languages Programme
This course is intended for learners with minimal or no knowledge of Mandarin Chinese.

Course Aims
On completion of this course, learners will be able to
- communicate in Mandarin in a range of simple everyday situations such as introducing oneself or shopping;
- comprehend a simple dialogue or narrative in Mandarin such as greeting each other;
- understand Chinese character writing;
- read and write some simple Chinese characters such as numbers, basic greetings;
- have a general understanding of Chinese culture, people and their way of life.

- Chinese vocabulary and grammar (listening, speaking and reading);
- character components in writing Chinese (writing skills).

Chinese Level 2
This course is for those who have completed a Chinese Level 1 course or have some basic knowledge of Chinese (the ability to read and write pinyin and some Chinese characters).
In this course reading, writing, listening and speaking skills will be developed in a wider range of areas and the conversations will progress beyond the scope of the Level 1 course.
This course is based on the book Chinese in steps Volume 2, edited by George X Zhang, Cypress Book Co. UK Ltd.
Sufficient handouts and plenty of opportunities to practise will be provided in this course.
This course is for those who have completed a Chinese Level 2 course or have equivalent knowledge of Chinese.
In this course reading, writing, listening and speaking skills will be developed to an advanced stage with more complexity of the language. Students will be able to have conversations in Chinese in a great variety of topics.
This course is firstly based on the book Chinese in steps Volume 2, edited by George X Zhang, Cypress Book Co. UK Ltd. and then uses the book New Practical Chinese Reader Textbook 2 edited by Xun Liu, Beijing Language and Culture University Press.
Sufficient handouts and plenty of opportunities to practise will be provided in this course.
