Support Service Solutions: Strategy and Transition (S4T)

Overview
| Title: | Support Service Solutions: Strategy and Transition (S4T)
|
| Duration: | April 2008 – December 2009 |
| Sponsor: | EPSRC, BAE Systems |
Abstract
S4T is a research programme funded by BAE Systems and EPSRC, studying how companies can move from supplying products only to providing products and services, i.e. shifting to Product Service Systems (PSS). It concentrates on suppliers of complex engineering systems, such as BAE Systems and MBDA, and applies knowledge from engineering and other disciplines, such as service marketing and management science.
Whilst focused on the defence sector imperative, the research and codification of best practice in integrated solutions is of interest to other sectors where producer manufacturers are looking to the value-added from product based support services such as Transportation, Automotive Services and Healthcare. This research takes a truly multi-disciplined position in addressing service provision issues within industries underpinned by complex engineering systems.
The S4T programme is striving to achieve integration across its various research threads in order to deliver a consolidated view of transformation of the service in complex engineering service systems. The approach being taken is to integrate the individual contributions within workpackages and seek to integrate across the work packages at a programme level through the Core Integrative Framework (CIF).
