Alejandra Matamoros-Sanchez is PhD student at the Control Group within the department. Her research focuses on the use of novel mechanical devices for enhancing the performance of railway vehicles.
She started her project at Loughborough University on April, 2009. Topics currently being studied include the inerter uses, passive and active networks for suspension systems, active control for railway vehicle systems, control design based on energy concepts and topology for control configurations properties.
Her project is part of a new collaborative activity between Prof. Roger Goodall and Dr. Argyrios Zolotas from the Group of Control Systems (Loughborough University) with Professor Malcolm Smith from the Control Group of the Department of Engineering at University of Cambridge.
MSc Matamoros-Sanchez is also a member of the Department of Control Systems teaching and research staff in Universidad de Los Andes, Mérida -Venezuela. She was granted to do her PhD abroad as an academic formation benefit for the staff at the mentioned university. It is planned that she will be 3 years at research in Loughborough University, however it is also expected that she will spend a few months working at University of Cambridge.
