Miss Alejandra Matamoros-Sanchez

Alejandra Matamoros-Sanchez is currently a PhD student in the Control Systems Research Group, in the Electrical Engineering Department. Her research focuses on the use of novel mechanical devices for enhancing the performance of railway vehicles.

She started her project at Loughborough University on April, 2009. Topics currently being studied include: the potential use of the inerter in passive networks when combined with ideal active suspension systems, state of the art active control for railway vehicle suspensions, control design based on filtering, energy concepts, disturbance cancellation using flatness-based approaches, parameterization of control schemes and multibody dynamics simulation.

Her project is part of a new collaborative activity between Prof. Roger Goodall and Dr. Argyrios Zolotas (Control Systems Group, Loughborough University) with Professor Malcolm Smith (Control Group, University of Cambridge). Alejandra spent two months during her second year of research in CINVESTAV-IPN (Centro de Investigación y Estudios Avanzados del Instituto Politécnico Nacional), México, in an very valuable internship position, supervised by Prof. Hebertt Sira-Ramírez in the Mechatronics Section.

Ms. Matamoros-Sanchez MSc is also a member of the Department of Control Systems teaching and research staff in Universidad de Los Andes, Mérida -Venezuela. She was granted the opportunity to do her PhD abroad as part of an academic scheme, for the benefit of staff at the aforementioned university. It is planned that she will be at conducting her research at Loughborough University for 3 years.
