Social network analysis and knowledge sharing
in organisations.
Social network analysis is a research method that investigates the relationships
between entities in a network: in a knowledge management context, it enables
us to understand the pattern of information and knowledge flows between
individuals in an organisation. This in turn enables us to identify interventions
that will enhance and strengthen knowledge sharing in order better to
achieve organisational objectives.
Knowledge management in law enforcement agencies
and public sector organisations.
Policing and criminal intelligence work are knowledge intensive activities
that depend on effective information and knowledge management processes.
High profile incidences of failure in information and knowledge sharing
both within law enforcement agencies and across relevant bodies have highlighted
the need to scrutinise current information, knowledge and communication
practices across a range of public sector organisations. There is considerable
scope for action research that leads to recommendations for practitioners
across the sector.
Information policy relating to access to information,
freedom of information and freedom of expression.
Access to information is the driving principle behind the work of information
professionals. Yet this principle is constantly under challenge as a result
of legislative and regulatory measures, new technological developments,
media and commercial interests, self-censorship and the need to balance
the interests of different rights and rights holders. I am interested
in supervising research studies that investigate policy and technical
measures that impact on freedom of access to information or freedom of
expression.
