Interests and experience
The synergy between my past industrial experience and
my academic interests enables me to attempt to 'bridge the gap' between
theory and practice. Hence, my research tends to take the form of participatory
action research and has embraced topics such as systems thinking, creative
problem solving and
knowledge management. These topics have taken me into many different organisations
in both the voluntary and profit-making sectors.
Examples from the voluntary sector – redesigning
a community radio team; evaluation of a Citizen’s Advice Bureau; evaluation
of a Council for Voluntary Service’s development team; developing
effective knowledge management in the voluntary sector.
Examples from the private sector – collaborative interventions in
the caravan manufacturing industry, the leisure industry and in the water
industry.
Examples from the public sector – evaluation of training in the
British Armed Forces and of commercial training offered by a HE institute;
evaluation of hardware and software for disabled users.
