Open Access: a rapidly developing trend
Access to research materials is being revolutionised through their deposit in an Open Access (OA) environment. The Russell Group of nineteen top research-led universities in the UK has recently released a statement supporting OA, while sixteen of its institutions have now set up institutional repositories (IRs). Also a UK House of Commons Select Committee report has explicitly encouraged their creation. Depositing work in an IR is increasingly being regarded as a way of maximising the control you exercise over how your research is disseminated and accessed.
This site will tell you about:
- the benefits of making your work available on OA terms
- ways in which work may be made openly accessible
- your basic rights as an author which should be maintained when dealing with publishers
- practical ways to approach ‘self-archiving’, i.e., placing copies of your work in an electronic repository accessible to all
- publishing in Open Access journals
