What have you gained from The Design School experience?

I have gained a number of skills directly related to design and also confidence in what I do. I've also met lifelong friends and have some great memories from here.

The variety of the work has ensured the course is always engaging and is a great opportunity to hone many skills.

What is your best memory of your time at the School?

Final year has been difficult yet rewarding and I have thoroughly enjoyed the process of working on my final project. This has been made far more enjoyable thanks to the support from friends on the course. The final year students have really come together!

What are you hoping to do after graduation?

I will be working at VanBerlo, a Dutch design agency based in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, for the summer period. I then intend to spend a few months pursuing my passion for travel and photography in South America, where I hope to trek to Machu Picchu before seeking a job in the New Year.

Hannah is currently working for VanBerlo as a Designer.

Do you hope to pursue a career in design? What industry interests you?

Yes I hope to pursue a career in design. I would be most interested in a career in Industrial Design, where I can put into practice the skills I’ve learnt over the past four years at university.

What advice would you give to people aspiring to study design at university?

Practice your skills as often and as much as you can – this will really give you a head start at university. Keep on top of design trends and styles as this will open your eyes to great designs from around the world.

What is your favourite part of the design process?

I particularly enjoy sketching and model making aspects of project work, where the design is still in its infancy and can be developed.

I enjoy working with softer materials like blue foam and Prolab because they allow you to almost sculpt a design or sand it away to the desired shape. This approach can be very precise and appeals to my perfectionist nature.

Which modules have you most enjoyed doing over the course?

I have most enjoyed the Design Practice module as it provided an opportunity to develop my sketching and model making skills with regular input and advice from tutors.  Subsequently I have been most proud of the project work from this module.
