The Strategic Sanitation Approach


This site is designed to provide a web interface for DFID KAR research project R6875 'Practical Development of Strategic Sanitation Concepts'. The research is funded by DFID's knowledge and Research in Engineering Sectors (ENGKARS) programme.

The Strategic Sanitation Approach (SSA) is the UNDP-World Bank Water and Sanitation Programme's response to the need to develop a holistic response to sanitation deficiencies in urban areas. The aim of the project is to develop guidelines for the application of an integrated strategic sanitation approach in urban areas, based on a literature review, case studies and pilot project in the town of Bharatpur, India.
