Practical Guidance on Research Dissemination Strategies
Description of main activities
Activities:
(i) Desk based literature review;
(ii) Consultation with sector agencies on research dissemination strategies;
(iii) Production of interim findings document.
Description:
A key activity during this phase will be to identify the dissemination pathways used during the implementation of a series of selected TDR research projects. Particular attention will be paid to documenting dissemination activities of a number of specific DFID Engineering Division TDR research outputs, and producing case studies of dissemination experiences. This would include determining how the outputs had been disseminated and how they had been used in priority regions internationally (such as South Asia, West Africa).
Additionally, the review will look at a series of dissemination activities outside of the water sector of the Engineering Division, but also drawing on lessons from elsewhere within DFID, and from other key agencies working in the field (i.e., UNDP World Bank RWSG; UNICEF; SDC; IDRC, etc.).
A general literature review will be performed and will centre on texts (both published and grey literature) which deal with information, education and communication concepts; methods and media for communicating ideas and their relative effectiveness in bringing about behavioural change. It is anticipated that the review will reveal few examples of comparing dissemination methods and the research will explore the reason why this is so. Discussions with personnel at key European based agencies (ie, IRC, SANDEC, British Library for Development Studies etc.) will also take place during this phase.
