Entry Requirements
The MEng programme in Civil Engineering is offered as a full-time course of four years or as a five-year sandwich course incorporating a year of industrial training to gain the Diploma in Industrial Studies (DIS).
Applications for the programme should be made through the UCAS system using one of the following codes:
- H202 MEng/CvE5 – 5 year sandwich programme
- H203 MEng/CvE4 – 4 year full-time programme
If we make an offer after considering your application form you will then be invited to visit the University. This is not for a formal interview but is an opportunity for you to see the Department and to meet staff and current students.
The following examples give you an idea of the typical offers you may expect to receive:
- GCE A/AS Level
AAB at A2 level, including Mathematics and preferably a second science
(General Studies and Key SKills not included) - Advanced Scottish Highers: A/B including Mathematics
- Scottish Highers: Majority A grades including Mathematics
- IB: 36 points, including a minimum of 5 in Mathematics at HL (including English)
- BTEC ND in Civil Engineering
340 points from 18 units (or 12 units plus one A2 level or two AS levels)
Distinction/Distinction/Merit is required as a minimum, with Distinction in Mathematics and Further Mathematics - BTEC HND in Civil Engineering
Distinction/Distinction/Merit is required as a minimum, with Distinction in Mathematics and Further Mathematics - EB: 80%
- FB: 15 points, including English and Mathematics
- Advanced Diploma Engineering: A, with A Level Mathematics: B
- Irish Leaving Certificate
360 points from 4 Highers including Mathematics at grade B - VCE A/AS Level
360 points from a combination of 18 VCE, A2 or AS units, including Mathematics in the VCE or A2 units
Other entry qualifications and second year entry will be considered on their individual merits.
