Career Opportunities

As a Civil Engineer you could be responsible for the major construction projects that are part of everyday life – roads, railways, bridges, tunnels, airports, dams, docks, water supply and sewage works, power stations, factories, multistorey buildings, retail developments, sports complexes and leisure facilities.

Your work may be mainly site based with a contractor or design-office based with a firm of consulting engineers. Alternatively, you may work for an organisation such as a local authority, a public utility or a construction material or component manufacturer. Further prospects also exist in teaching and research.

The MEng programme prepares you for the above wide range of employment opportunities and possible career moves, starting with its broad civil engineering education in Parts A and B. The optional year of industrial training provides professional and industrial skills and may give you the opportunity to work abroad. Your career opportunities are further enhanced by the development of your management, financial, presentational and teamworking skills in Parts C and D. An international dimension can also be introduced with the opportunity to study at an overseas university in semester 2 of Part D.

As a graduate in Civil Engineering from Loughborough University you will be well respected in industry. Recent independent surveys of major employers have consistently rated the School the top nationally for Civil Engineering and construction graduates.
