Publications and Communications Manager
Background
Rod Shaw is a specialist in graphic and information design and the manager of publications and communications at WEDC. From a background in Fine Art, he has developed expertise in illustration and graphic communication, both in practice (he has over 30 years of experience) and academically through his research into information design for international development.
Along with many other WEDC publications, Rod designed and produced the DFID Guidance Manual on Water Supply and Sanitation Programmes. His illustration projects have included Drawing Water – a collection of over 200 illustrations on water and sanitation; a compendium on drinking water and sanitation for household surveys for UNICEF and WHO; and a volume on relief, health and care in emergencies for IFRC. As Publications Manager, Rod also contributes editorially to WEDC projects. Recent examples include Sanitation for Primary Schools in Africa and Technical Notes for Emergencies for WHO and he is the WEDC International Conference Editor. He manages the design and editorial content of the WEDC website and leads the extension of WEDC's publishing programme through integrating emerging electronic technologies with conventional publishing practices.
