Background
Graduated with a Civil Engineering Degree from Loughborough University 1992. Spent five years working for consulting engineers on a wide variety of projects including Highway and Railway Engineering, Sewage and Water Treatment plant design, Drainage design and Port Engineering. Returned to Loughborough to work as a Research Assistant on a Highways Agency funded research contract on Pavement Foundation Design, obtaining a PhD in 2000.
From 2000 to 2004 worked as a lecturer and then senior lecturer in Geotechnical Engineering in the Civil and Structural Engineering Department at Nottingham Trent University. Involved in developing the UK's first Undergraduate Railway Engineering Degree.
