Background
Dr Jacqueline Glass is a Senior Lecturer in Architecture & Sustainable Construction, specialising in sustainability issues in respect to building design and material selection. She is currently Director of Undergraduate Studies in the School of Civil and Building Engineering at Loughborough University, with responsibility for teaching and learning across seven UK-leading undergraduate programmes. Jacqui teaches on undergraduate programmes in Architectural Engineering & Design Management, Construction Engineering Management and post-graduate construction courses.
Originally trained in architecture and then completing an EPSRC CASE PhD studentship, Dr Glass' research has often focused on design and specification issues, with sustainability management being a particular area of expertise. Since joining Loughborough University in 2003, after five years with a the British Cement Association, her research has included an invited submission to the Foresight futures review on energy management, life-cycle assessment studies and the development of a sector sustainability strategy for the precast concrete industry.
Jacqui is leading and co-supervising a range of research projects on responsible sourcing (including APRES – the action programme on responsible sourcing http://apres.lboro.ac.uk) and corporate sustainability; She is working with many leading companies such as Aggregate Industries, British Precast, Celsa Steel, Jacobs, Kier, Lafarge, Lend Lease, Responsible Solutions, Simons, Skanska, Tarmac and URS. Her industry experience is highly relevant to her role as Deputy Director of CICE – the Engineering Doctorate centre which has a lengthy track record of delivering high quality research in collaboration with industrial sponsors.
Dr Glass has co-supervised 11 PhD and EngD students to completion; she has published over 40 journal papers and over 70 refereed conference papers, many of which are sustainability, design and materials-related. She has a close working relationship with the construction materials industry in the UK, US and Canada and has been a keynote speaker in the USA, Canada and Europe, giving addresses to CEN, USGBC, Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, the US Government Federal Facilities Committee.
