Lunch and Lecture at Loughborough

Transport Studies Group, Loughborough University

The Lunch and Lecture at Loughborough series began in February 2008. Its role is twofold:

  1. to enable transport students and transport planning professionals from the East Midlands Region to meet together over lunch;
  2. to allow transport students and transport planning professionals to learn about the latest developments in the mobility management sector from a number of invited experts.

The series is organised as part of the Loughborough University MSc in Sustainable Transport and Travel Planning, and because there are only limited places prior booking is required. Tickets to attend are £10.

Previous Sessions

The output from previous sessions is presented below (most recent first).

Session 15: Roles and Perspectives of the Transport Policy Community
The delivery of transport policy is heavily influenced by individual people who occupy key roles in the process. Of particular interest, is the fact that everybody has their own (and often multiple) perspective(s) on transport policy which are shaped by factors such as personal experience and value structures, as well as by broader societal forces, which then lead certain people to undertake particular roles in the process. Yet this is an aspect that is often overlooked, and so the purpose of this session is to explore how actors in the transport community have been influenced by such factors and what it means for the delivery of transport improvements.

Speakers: Michelle Thurgood, Birmingham International Airport and Tamworth Borough Council; Dr Marcus Enoch, School of Civil and Building Engineering

Session 13: Future pathways for travel plans
Travel plans can be effective at delivering community and organisational benefits, but as yet in most places remain a relatively marginal tool beyond the site level. This section explores how travel planning might be developed in the future to enhance its appeal as a transport policy tool.

Speakers: Marcus Enoch, Loughborough University; Neil Taylor, ITP; Lisa Davison, Loughborough University.

Date: Friday 18 March 2011
