Research Themes
Theme 1: Mobility Management
Research on mobility management incorporates work on: demand-based measures (such as road user charging, parking, travel plans, alternative tax regimes) and supply-based measures (such as enhancing transport alternatives to the private car, most notably through innovative approaches such as Demand Responsive Transport systems, car clubs, and improved marketing of buses and light rail).

Theme 2: Environment and Sustainability
Research relating to the environment and sustainability includes:: low carbon city transport systems, the acceptability of and behavioural response to personal carbon trading, carbon emission reduction through air traffic management and airspace charging regimes, valuing environmental externalities and sustainable transport for the urban poor.

Theme 4: Transport Technology and Safety
Research in this theme includes the modelling of road traffic accidents using advanced statistical models, the application of GIS/spatial data in transport, advanced algorithms to integrate data from different sensors (GPS, DR), map-matching algorithms, use of artificial intelligence in transport and transport modelling.
Theme 5: Air Transport
Research relating to aviation involves; examining the propensity to fly, examining the impact of the EU-US Open Skies agreement, modelling aircraft accidents, examining low-cost carriers' pricing, competitive behaviour and impact, the economic impacts of aviation and globalisation and security.
Theme 6: Structures and Materials
Research relating to advanced and precast concretes, additive manufacturing, repair of concrete structures, computational dynamics, structural analysis and design, and adaptable buildings.
