What undergraduate course did you study and where?

I obtained a BSc in Computer Science from the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Nigeria

Why did you choose to do your degree at Loughborough?

I found that the University had a very impressive reputation. I had also followed the research work in the department of Computer Science and saw that a lot of ground breaking research was going on here.

How are you funding your degree?

My studies are being funded by the National Open University of Nigeria

What do you enjoy most about your degree?

The opportunity to study under world-class researchers in Computer Science has been very rewarding.  I learned from very great minds and have had hands-on experience in executing a number of projects under their supervision. It has been an exciting experience.

Every module I have taken here has had an extensive practical component where I get the chance to gain hands-on experience on the things I learn in class. Working with people from so many other parts of the world has been interesting as well.

What do you think of the teaching quality and facilities?

The staff are awesome. They are all very passionate about their respective fields and are involved in active research. The staff are very supportive and they go the extra mile to ensure that students have a fulfilling learning experience.

Another interesting fact about the lecturers is that their own research also forms part of the knowledge they transfer to students; this makes it even more captivating and has given me the experience of being involved in work that is currently evolving.

The facilities here are state-of-the-art. There is a very modern computer laboratory that is exclusively dedicated to the use of masters students.

What kind of exciting things do you get to do on your course?

I have written programs that implement novel algorithms to solve complex problems.

At some point we were required to build a scaled down version of an ISP’s network and defend it against the activities of “malicious attackers” who were actually PhD students trying to take over  our groups’ networks. The simulation was part of our coursework and it was really exciting!

I have also had the opportunity to programme an actual robot to exhibit intelligent behaviour.

What would you say to someone considering studying your degree?

For someone who wants a really satisfying academic experience in a peaceful environment, Loughborough is the place to be.

What support have you had from the University?

The Student Advice and Support Service were very helpful; they put together a series of events that helped me to settle down in Loughborough. They prepared me early for what to expect and how to have a comfortable and rewarding stay at Loughborough.

The Centre for Faith and Spirituality has been a great source of inspiration and support for me. There I have met people of like faith with me who have been very encouraging.

Loughborough University has a very vibrant social atmosphere. There are lots of activities to engage in. The students are lively and bubbly.
