Towards environment and object independent shadow detection algorithms

Abstract: Shadow detection is a challenging problem in image processing. It has applications in computer vision and digital photography - including image segmentation, object recognition and image enhancement. Current algorithms: (i) require the input of environment and/or object data or (ii) require training. This seminar presents a simple, physically-based, local affine model for shadow that leads to efficient detection algorithms, in the pixel and transform domains, that need no environment/object data to be input and requires no training.
