E-Skills UK South Event

On Wednesday, 18 March 2015, 42 Loughborough ITMB students plus two staff members travelled to the E-Skills UK South event at Ditton Manor, CA Technologies headquarters based at Slough. The students took part in competitions; attended inspiring lectures from industrial speakers, and had a chance to mix informally with employers and other ITMB students from around the country.

Loughborough entered two teams into the competitions and both did extremely well. The first year team, consisting of Mitchell Burack, Alice Kirkness, Lana Parkin, Luke Speake, Erin White, Qonita Widyatmoko and Sarah Willis who received a highly commended award of £200 for their video and presentation on using the internet of things to improve safety for children at school. The prize was awarded to the team by HP, GE and Isban. The second year team, consisting of Antonia Altham, Melih Manyera, Laura Marty, Haydn Murray and Joshua Richardson received the Ford and Nationwide £500 first prize for their video and presentation on using the internet of things to track personal health.

In addition, Mitchell Burack won a £50 spot prize from GE together with the 'star prize of the day' which was an opportunity to 'run' CA Technologies for a day. Mitchell will therefore shadow the CEO of the company taking an active part in all meetings and decisions throughout the day. Haydn Murray also won a £50 spot prize from Isban for professional presentation.

Altogether a very successful and enjoyable day for the Loughborough ITMB students. Congratulations to the prizewinners!
