Visiting Students from China attend our Summer School

The department was very pleased to hold another summer school this year from 1-21 August. We had a large number of participants this time; in total, 42 students from our five partner universities. We organised various avtivities to help the participants learn the UK culture and improve their English. Some taster courses were also provided by our more experienced academic staff from different subject areas. The summer school was very successful; we received some very positive feedback from both students and their teachers. All of them were exremely happy with our arrangements and the quality of the school. After returning home, some partner universities also published their experience of the summer school on the internet and their university websites.

The aim of the summer school is to support our 3+1+1 programme in different ways, (1) Increase publicity, helping the teachers of our partner univiersities and their students to learn more about LU and Computer Science and to pass their experiences to other students; 2) Strengthen links with our partner universities so that more students will be encouraged by their teachers to apply for our 3+1+1 programme, especially when prospective students have several candidate universities; 3) Attract the summer school students who will hopefully consider joining us later.

The department held a 'graduation' lunch with Dr Christian Dawson presenting each student with a certificate to show that they had attended the Summer School.
