Departmental Seminar given by Mr Phil Beckett

A department Seminar held by Mr. Phil Beckett from Proven Legal Technologies of the Good Governance Group (G3) took place in the department seminar room N1.12 on 29 October 2014.

Mr Beckett gave an interesting talk that focuses on the challenges and development of forensic technologies, which comprises of two distinct, but related, fields of expertise. The first is related directly to legal or regulatory processes, whereby documents that relate to the matter in hand need to be ‎reviewed by the lawyers. The second is related to investigations, where you are approaching computers (and other devices) as a source of evidence and intelligence, gradually peeling back the layers of the onion to support or refute allegations. During the seminar Mr. Beckett was able to discuss forensic technology at a holistic level, before delving into the technicalities of what is possible and why.

The seminar marks the beginning of the department seminar series of the new academic year and attracted around 30 participants across the university.
