Drug-microorganism interactions: 

  • infectious diseases, aetiology, pathology of infection and chemotherapy
  • antimicrobial agents mode of action (including uptake) studies, factors affecting (including metabolism); synthetic and naturally occurring novel compounds; 
  • microorganisms in assay procedures, factors affecting, modified and novel assay techniques; microbial responses to non-antibiotics: significance and possible use in drug action/toxicity screening; 
  • microbial contamination of pharmaceutical and food products, detection and significance; product preservation and evaluation.
