Romain Mailhot is a French PhD student born in Clermont-Ferrand, France, in 1991. Romain completed his Bachelor degree (2013) and "Diplôme d'ingénieur" (2015) in chemistry and chemical engineering at the engineering school CPE Lyon (Superior school of Chemistry Physics Electronics of Lyon), France.

After a year in industry in drug discovery at Origenis GmbH, he achieved a MSc degree in Durham University, in 2015. Romain started his PhD in October 2015 at University of Loughborough with Dr Stephen Butler. The project focuses on the development of chemical probes for the recognition of nucleoside polyphosphate anions in water.
