PhD Research Student

Date of start of studies: 1 October 2014

Name of supervisors: Professor Upul Wijayantha & Professor Rui Chen

Research areas: Photoelectochemistry & Photocatalysis

Jake started his postgraduate studies in October 2014 at the Department of Chemistry. His project investigates solar production of ammonia for applications in direct ammonia fuel cells. Jake is funded through the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Fuel Cells and their Fuels based at the University of Birmingham.

His Research focuses on looking at photoactive semiconductor materials for the photocatalytic and photoelectrochemical production of ammonia. By adopting novel microwave synthesis techniques, powders and thin films can be produced with characteristics ideal for nitrogen and nitrate reduction.
