Marijana Dragosavac accepting first prize at the international PSA2011 (Particulate Systems Analysis) conference

Research Student Wins International Conference Prize

September 11

Marijana Dragosavac was recently awarded first prize at the international PSA2011 (Particulate Systems Analysis) conference held in Edinburgh for her oral presentation: “Production of silica particles using membrane emulsification.”

Marijana, who is currently a final year PhD student in the Chemical Engineering Department, received The Brian Scarlett Memorial and Beckman Coulter Prize for the best student presentation made at the three day conference. The conference was organised by the Particle Characterisation Interest Group [PCIG] of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a Loughborough research student winning the prize is particularly fitting as Brian Scarlett was a lecturer at Loughborough University before taking up the Chair in Particle Technology at Delft University in The Netherlands in 1983.

Marijana’s work focuses on the application of membrane emulsification for production of highly uniform particles with potential applications as sorption media in food, chemical, nuclear as well as pharmaceutical industries.

This was a prestigious international event that brought together individuals and organisations from technological and engineering sectors, and included several high profile speakers from America.
