Geoff was a keen rock climber and wrote the definitive book on rock climbing in Leicestershire, "Leicestershire Climbs". In his retirement he took a keen interest in Charnwood quarries and their significant leisure potential to put Charnwood on the tourist map.

Geoff passed away in hospital, surrounded by his family, after having spent a month in hospital battling infections. In typical Geoff fashion one of his last statements was ‘that its then.....’.

He is survived by his wife Felicity and two sons: Alan and Philip. The funeral was held at Loughborough Crematorium on 24th July 2015.

His colleagues from the department will greatly miss his wit and wisdom, and recall his memorable teaching style.
