International Symposium on Continuous Manufacturing of Pharmaceuticals

June 14

Professor Chris Rielly was amongst a party of UK researchers who were invited to participate in the first International Symposium on Continuous Manufacturing of Pharmaceuticals in Boston on 20th – 21st May 2014. This prestigious event was co-hosted by MIT and CMAC (the EPSRC Centre of Innovative Manufacturing in Continuous Crystallisation and Manufacturing — Loughborough University is one of the academic partners) and followed a request by Dr Janet Woodcock, Head of the Center for Drug Evaluation Research at the US FDA, to engage 250 world leaders in discussions on  making continuous pharmaceutical manufacturing a reality! This event was attended by pharmaceutical end users, suppliers, regulators and academics who discussed accelerating the adoption of continuous manufacturing for both small molecules and biological products. The key output from the Symposium was eight white papers of which Alastair Florence, Craig Johnston, Jag Srai, Paul Sharratt and Clive Badman contributed to four papers as lead or co-author. The event was also attended by four CMAC researchers who presented posters of their work to the esteemed audience.
