Following the success of their 2014 competition, Harvard recently invited applications for a fully funded place on the prestigious summer internship programme at the Harvard Stem Cell Institute, USA in 2015. An independent judging panel comprising academic and commercial organisations from around the UK scrutinised the applications and were delighted to announce that the internship bursary has been awarded to Arianna Rech, a Chemical Engineering undergraduate student from Loughborough University. In her excellent application Arianna detailed her interests in regenerative medicine, developing testing methods and tissue engineering and the honour it would be to attend Harvard for the summer.

On hearing the news of her success, Arianna (left) said "That’s awesome!  It will be an amazing opportunity – a dream coming true. I'm thrilled at the prospect of experiencing a regenerative medicine research project at Harvard, one of the world's most prestigious universities, where the two worlds of engineering skills and the medical field can be combined. "

Prof Nick Medcalf, Director of the EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Regenerative Medicine, said "We received many excellent applications and our judging panel had a very difficult job making their selection.  We wish Arianna all the best for her internship.  Elizabeth Cheeseman had a fantastic experience last year and I’m sure the same will be true for Arianna.  Our Centre is very pleased to collaborate with Harvard in this important initiative.”

The School of Aeronautical, Automotive, Chemical and Materials Engineering would like to congratulate Arianna on her achievement and hope that her experience at the Harvard Stem Cell Institute is both challenging and inspiring.
