Rahiman poster prize 2015 x 528

Chemical Engineering PhD Student Wins 1st Prize For Poster

August 15

The title of her poster was “Enhanced yield and purity in API crystallisation with a new application of a microengineered membrane system for the formation of uniform nanocrystals size distribution and smooth crystal surface”.

The main purpose of Rahiman's, (pictured left above), study was to introduce a new approach to micro-engineered membrane systems, which has a perfect hexagonal array of uniform pores to tailor the size of biodegradable and bioresorbable drug-excipient nanaoparticles (NPs) and to induce a rapid mixing process in order to control and limit the maximum level of supersaturation needed for nucleation due to defined mass transfer across the membrane, which allows for the generation of more nuclei and smaller size of NPs.

The poster was co-authored by a Chemical Engineering Department lecturer, Dr. Goran Vladisavljević and the work presented was sponsored by the European Research Council’s CrySys (Crystallization Systems Engineering) project, led by Professor Z.K. Nagy with the aim to improve the efficiency and quality of crystalline products, such as pharmaceuticals, food and fine chemicals, whilst reducing wastage and energy costs.

We offer our congratulations to Rahiman on winning the prize and hope that this is only one of many prizes that she gains in recognition of her research.
