Programme | Introduction
The overall DTC programme for each Doctoral Student comprises a 4 year plan of integrated training and research, as indicated in the schematic. In year 1 students will be registered at Loughborough, then as the PhD project is defined and specialist courses chosen, registration will transfer to the most appropriate host institution. The programme draws its strengths from both the research excellence and infrastructure at the three Universities, and their broad experience in postgraduate training schemes.
We will seek to ensure effective integration of the training and research elements of the programme. Such integration will enable the student to benefit fully from the opportunities of participation within the programme, and ensure the overall programme maintains coherence of objectives and remit in both research and teaching. Planning and timing of the taught element for each student will be tailored to the individual needs of the student and his / her sponsor, and designed to meet the timescales of his/her group and individual projects. The translational ('bench to bedside') nature of group projects, and maintenance of a 'group dynamic', will particularly depend upon integration of teaching with research. Additionally, each student will be enrolled in the host university's Graduate School which will promote a supportive research and training environment spanning all disciplines.
