Pericles Loucopoulos, Professor of Information Systems, joined Loughborough University Business School from the University of Manchester in November 2006. At Manchester University he was Professor of Information Systems Engineering since 1990 and served twice as Head of the Department of Computation.

Professor Loucopoulos’s research interests focus on the provision of information processing systems that support large, complex and dynamic organisational systems. Theoretical results derived from his research work are applied on industrial scale problems in a variety of domains, for example, banking, utilities, governmental, etc. His work has been supported by numerous research grants totalling in excess of €4.2 million, funded by the EPSRC in the UK, by the Commission of the European Communities and by industry.

He is the co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of Requirements Engineering (http://springerlink.metapress.com), the associate editor for Information Systems (http://ees.elsevier.com/is/) and serves on the editorial boards of the Information Systems Journal (www.blackwellpublishing.com/journals/isj/), the Journal of Computer Research (http://cs.okstate.edu/~ijcr/editorial.html), the Business Process Management Journal (www.emeraldinsight.com/bpmj.htm), the International Journal of Computer Science & Applications (http://www.tmrfindia.org/ijcsa/editor.html), the WSEAS Transactions on Computers (http://www.worldses.org/journals/computers/), the International Journal of Computing and ICT research and e-informatica (http://www.e-informatyka.pl/journal/e-Informatica).

He is a member of the Steering Committee of the International Conference on the ER Approach and of the Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering (CAiSE), and serves on the European Advisory Board of the AIS SIG on Systems Analysis and Design (http://teweiwang.net/sigsand/officers.htm). He has served as General Chair or Programme Chair of nine international conferences and has been a member of more than 150 programme committees of international conferences.

Professor Loucopoulos has been a Visiting Professor at the Université de Paris I – Sorbonne (1998 to date), at the Athens University of Economics and Business (2002 to date), at the University of the Aegean (1991 to 1993) and at the Delhi Institute of Technology (1995 to 1998).

In 2005 he was the recipient of the OR Society’s President’s Medal (http://www.orsoc.org.uk/) for his work on supporting the planning of Venue Operations for the Athens 2004 Olympics. This work was also chosen as one of the finalists in the 2005 INFORMS Franz Edelman award competition. (http://www.informs.org/Prizes/EdelmanPrize.html). In 2006 he was the recipient of the Outstanding Paper Award of the Emerald Literati Network for Excellence for the paper “A Roadmap for the Elicitation of Business Rules in Information Systems Projects”.

Professor Loucopoulos is the co-author of six books, the co-editor of one book, the editor of two volumes of conference proceedings, and the co-editor of one volume of conference proceedings. He has published in leading journals such as ACM TOSEM, IEEE Trans on SMC, Information Systems, Information Systems Journal, Journal of Systems and Software, Information Software Technology and CAIS and many others.
