‘Folded Nature’: a collection which views nature from the perspective of folded forms - an exploration of transforming flat surfaces into three-dimensional structures utilizing the simplicity of a fold.
This collection, inspired by natural forms, presents research into how certain luxurious fabrics can be manipulated. Heat forming and laser etching processes are used to create artifacts capable of composition into abstract textures to make designs that create harmonious movements and rhythms, and that are visually satisfying illusions. ‘Folded Nature’ has inspired the creation of surfaces that are not only visually appealing but also demonstrate functionality giving flexibility when moving. They provide a satisfying aesthetic of breathable movement in the pleated designs, expanding and contracting in the response to the body. They may also be considered in other contexts, such as interactive sculptural installations in an architectural setting.
