My practice focuses on the arduous beauty routines and rituals that women participate in every day and throughout their lives.
Characterized as purely sexual beings, women are programmed from a young age to continually analyse and alter their appearance. Ths is because, if woman were to appear in her natural, unpolished state, it would invite disgust and disapproval. My practice works to expose the normatively concealed behaviours and routines that women perform in front of their mirrors. By doing this I aim to begin dismantling notions that women exist purely to appeal to the male gaze. Subsequently my practice brings to light the factors that constitute being a real life woman, so that they can be celebrated and patriarchal beauty standards challenged.
