Arts Degree Show2016

Natasha Heaps

By differentiating the innate qualities of woman from those of ‘the feminine’, my practice recognises femininity as a social construct that prescribes female life.

In somewhat satirically adhering to the gender binary, my work comments on femininity as a conflict between second and fourth wave feminist theory. My work aims to resolve the ambivalent relationship between feminism and femininity, both on a personal and universal level, through asserting female agency over this commonly oppressive ideology.
