Arts Degree Show2016

Jemma Hill

During my second and third years studying at Loughborough I have found I have grown fonder of the conceptual side of art, directly or subtly transmitting a message for the audience to reflect on in any way they wish rather than focusing on the aesthetics.

Only recently I have begun experimenting with analogue collage, specifically contemporary and vintage magazine cut-outs. I take the images out of their original context and by combining the two eras the material creates an alternative thought. The same concept was used within the narrative of the collages; text was included through outdated newspaper clippings thus completely changing the original context of the headline. My subject matter consists of what I know best, my generation’s environment, technologies, lifestyle and culture.
