IN THEORY?
Encounters with Theory in Practice-based Ph.D. Research in Art and Design is a conference organised by
Art and Design Research Students from De Montfort University and Loughborough University. The one-day
conference will take place from 9am-6pm on the 26th of June 2007 at De Montfort University, Leicester
Campus. It is funded by the AHRC as part of its Collaborative Research Training Provision for Doctoral
Students.
The main aims of the conference are:
To address and discuss some of the generic rather than discipline-specific challenges of undertaking
practice-based research
To examine the relationship between theory and practice in art and design research
To identify and share knowledge of relevant research methodologies
To highlight the challenges faced when undertaking PhDs by practice
To increase confidence in dealing with familiar and unfamiliar theories and concepts
