Year of Study: Final
Course: Transport and Business Management
Why did you choose Loughborough University?
I knew I wanted to do my degree in transport and business and out of the universities that offered the course I liked the look of Loughborough’s modules the best. Furthermore, once I had seen the university on an open day I knew it was where I wanted to study.
What attracted you to the University in the first place?
I liked the course and the option of a placement year. Most universities do not offer this whereas Loughborough strongly encourage it and help you to find one. I also liked the idea of a campus university, so I knew the ‘Loughborough Bubble’ would be the right choice for me.
What do you enjoy about your course?
The relatively small group of people on my course has evolved into a tight-knit friendship group, which makes the learning experience easier and more personal.
What do you think of the teaching quality and facilities?
Due to the specific nature of my course lecturers are both extremely knowledgeable and passionate about their subject areas, resulting in an exceptionally high quality of teaching.
Do you have a particularly favourite project/module on your course? Why did you enjoy it?
Although I study Transport and Business Management and not Air Transport Management, I particularly enjoy the aviation-based modules as I find it interesting to learn about the scale of this industry.
What kind of support have you had in the department and from the University?
In first year each student is assigned a personal tutor who they can speak to about any problems, course-related or otherwise.
What are some of the exciting/different things you can do on your course?
Through my course I joined the transport society, Velocity. Velocity arrange a series of transport related trips including going to both Barcelona, where I was able to go behind the scenes at an airport, and Hamburg, where I was able to visit the Airbus factory.
Have you completed a placement whilst at University?
I have already completed my placement year at Enterprise Rent-A-Car on their management trainee programme. This enabled me to gain practical experience in the industry and apply what I have learned at university to the real world.
What do you hope to do when you graduate, and how will your Loughborough degree support this?
At the end of my placement year I was offered a graduate job with Enterprise, so I plan on returning there once I have completed my degree. My degree has already supported me in securing my initial placement; what I have learnt will further help me during my career.
What would you say to someone considering your course?
For somebody interested in general business and how it relates to transport I would certainly recommend this degree at Loughborough. It was the best offered by any university in England and I am glad I made the choice to come to Loughborough.
How do you find the social atmosphere on campus?
Loughborough is a big university in terms of student number which means there is a really good social atmosphere. The Union also have a wide range of societies and clubs you can join, so there are always opportunities to meet more people.
What do you enjoy the most about being a Loughborough University student?
Besides my course, I love the overall atmosphere at Loughborough and the range of activities to get involved with. There is a reason that Loughborough University has been voted best for student experience six years in a row!
Has Loughborough inspired you?
My whole university experience has made me a more confident person.
